- Cancer Prevention Seminar
Cancer is a major public health concern worldwide and is the second leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, "1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime". But even with these frightening statistics, most cancers can be prevented, arrested in their tracks, and even reversed with certain life-style changes. Please join Dr. David Emerson as he speaks to us about cancer, its causes, and ways to prevent and control it with life-style management techniques and natural treatments. David Emerson, MD, finished medical school in 1988. After residency in internal medicine at Kettering Medical Center in Ohio, his wife, Oleta and he went to Guam to serve at their SDA mission clinic for 8 years. This is where their two children were born, Johanna & Jonathan (they may look American but are really Guamanian!). While there he took my boards and became certified in internal medicine. There he treated many lifestyle related diseases and helped start an outpatient NEWSTART lifestyle program. They returned to the states in 2002 and opened a private practice in internal medicine in Ardmore, OK with an outpatient NEWSTART program. In 2009 they accepted a call to be medical director at Eden Valley Lifestyle Center in Loveland, CO where they worked with many cancer patients for 3 years. They then came to the East Coast to care for their aging parents and set up a practice to do lifestyle medicine, working out of their ancestral farmhouse on their large farm in Myersville, MD (near Frederick, MD). They have also been working closely with Hartland in their lifestyle program, seeing the patients and doing lifestyle education.
